Acupuncture effective for stress incontinence

Acupuncture A study to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment for stress incontinence has confirmed the success of this option after a trial conducted with over 500 women.

The group received either real or sham acupuncture over a period of 6 weeks. The women receiving real acupuncture reported less urine leakage after the 6 week treatment period. This persisted for a further 24 weeks without treatment. The measured outcome over 72 hours showed a decrease of 50% or more of urine leakage.
